Grade R to Grade 7, built on reading, routine, and results.
Growth Academy School spans seven years—from Grade R through Grade 7. Small classes, a phonics-first approach to reading, and teachers who stay, so every child is known.
From Grade R to Grade 7, each year builds on the last.
Grade R
Structured play, letter and number recognition, and the fine motor work that reading and writing will need — pencil grip, cutting, listening to a story to the end.
Grade 1
Formal phonics and first reading books, counting and number bonds to 20, and the daily rhythm of a proper school timetable.
Grade 2
Reading for meaning rather than decoding, written sentences and short stories, and place value work up to 99.
Grade 3
The final Foundation Phase year: longer independent reading, paragraph writing, and the maths foundation Grade 4 will assume they already have.
Grade 4
Moving beyond Foundation Phase: multi-digit maths, deeper comprehension, and the independence that intermediate schooling requires.
Grade 5
Consolidating the fundamentals: confident reading across subjects, problem-solving in maths, and developing their own thinking voice in writing.
Grade 6
Preparing for secondary school: research skills, formal essay writing, and the analytical maths that higher grades will build on.
Grade 7
The final year before secondary: mature reading and writing, structured learning across all subjects, and preparation for the independence of high school.
Three things every Foundation Phase classroom protects.
Reading, every single day
Phonics in Grade R and Grade 1, then daily guided reading through Grade 3 — because a child who reads confidently by age nine rarely struggles with any other subject.
Small classes
Foundation Phase classes stay small enough that a teacher notices who's stuck before it becomes a pattern, not after a test proves it.
One campus, one handover
Children who move up from Little CJ's Pre School already know the buildings, the teachers and the routine, so Grade R starts without a hard first-day adjustment.
Experienced educators who know each child by name.
Growth Academy's teachers are the foundation of everything we do. We keep staff turnover low because we know that children thrive when they're taught by people who already understand how they learn best. Every teacher in our school brings years of classroom experience and a deep commitment to Foundation Phase and junior school education.
